Commanders may have seen enough after Brandon Aiyuk's latest self-own

He just doesn't get it.

Brandon Aiyuk has not made things easy for himself. Whether it's attacking his current employers, displaying a nonchalant attitude toward his predicament, or even going after Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels, it's been one bad decision after another.

His latest social media post just proved how clueless Aiyuk is to his situation. And it's probably not going unnoticed by those within the Commanders.

Aiyuk's recent Instagram post made it clear that he would not be applying for reinstatement with the San Francisco 49ers. He believes they have lied endlessly to smear his reputation, and he doesn't want to set foot into the building again. The wideout is firmly dug into his stance, for good or bad.

Brandon Aiyuk remains painfully clueless in pursuit of Commanders move

Mostly bad, to be honest.

There is a problem. To get a desired move to Washington or anywhere else that will take him, Aiyuk must apply for reinstatement. That's non-negotiable, and it's where sound advice and representation come into play.

The former Arizona State standout ditched his agent long ago, though it was only recently confirmed. Aiyuk doesn't seem to be listening to anybody, and it's to his detriment. Most believe that all he has to do is get reinstated and show up at Niners' training camp to get his wish. But that notion is seemingly lost on the 2023 second-team All-Pro.

Aiyuk may be accused of talking himself out of the league with his actions. But until he is reinstated, he's already out of it.

And the penny still hasn't dropped.

There are some who still believe that the Commanders will bring Aiyuk in for a conversation when his turbulent relationship with the Niners officially ends. They are becoming less frequent, given his choice to throw shade at Daniels and his mother. Whether it was trolling or not is up for debate, but it doesn't change the poor judgment element that seems to follow the pass-catcher everywhere he goes.

If Aiyuk is not applying for reinstatement, then his whole saga becomes moot. That is the first step, and the Niners are not on the hook for anything without it.

It's that simple, or it should be.

The Commanders' decision to sign veteran cornerback Rasul Douglas shows that general manager Adam Peters is still looking to make the desired improvements. He may be waiting for Aiyuk to become available, but it might also be time to pursue other alternatives if Washington is intent on finding more receiver help.

Aiyuk has nobody else to blame but himself here. Fans were on board — some still are. But everyone has become really tired of this soap opera, which Washington was unwillingly dragged into.

Walking away is preferable. But there is still no telling for sure what's going on behind the scenes.
