Troubled wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk keeps shooting himself in the foot. His latest mishap, targeting quarterback Jayden Daniels on social media, led many to believe it should end any connection to the Washington Commanders.
However, one team reporter doesn't believe the exchange between Aiyuk and Daniels on Instagram has enough weight attached for general manager Adam Peters to alter course.
It's hard to know what to make of everything. Aiyuk may have been trolling Daniels, and he returned the favor. Rumors that it's something more are unfounded, though taking swipes at the signal-caller's mother wasn't exactly smart.
Considering everything else going on around the wide receiver right now, the Commanders would be well within their right to walk away and explore other options. And there are other possibilities on the market if Peters wants more in the receiver room.
Commanders reporter is not giving up on Brandon Aiyuk just yet
Mitchell Tischler of the Monumental Sports Network still thinks the Commanders will bring Aiyuk in for a conversation when he is released by the San Francisco 49ers, and he would be shocked if it doesn't happen.
He doesn't believe the pass-catcher has done anything to justify being blackballed by the league. Even so, Peters needs to be satisfied with the medical checks and the player's mental state to make this possibility a reality.
36 hours away from twitter and its fun reading back everyone trying to decipher ig stories - if, and its definitely IF Aiyuk becomes available I will be shocked if the Commanders don't bring him in, figure out where his head and health are make a decision then, basically the same…

While Aiyuk has nothing more than a speeding ticket among legitimate violations, the relationship factor matters much more now. That will be the defining factor above all else.
Aiyuk and Daniels may have been playing. They may have taken things a little too far and have cleared the air behind the scenes. But if there is genuine friction from either or both sides, there is absolutely no chance of the Arizona State teammates reuniting in Washington.
None.
Just why Aiyuk began this social media barrage, including throwing shade at Daniels, is anyone's guess. Keeping quiet, applying for reinstatement, and showing up to the Niners' practice facility to speed up the process of his inevitable departure should have been the desired course. The wideout did none of those things, and now, he could pay a heavy price.
We've got a few weeks until training camp. If Aiyuk's situation is still ongoing by then, reporters will get their chance to ask Daniels some questions. He probably won't answer them, but you can bet he's made his feelings clear to Peters about the prospect before action is needed.
That could be a long way off yet.
Aiyuk is still under contract with the Niners, and his public criticism on social media isn't exactly going to speed up the process. Almost every decision has been the wrong one, and going after Daniels might be the final straw for Washington.
It might be nothing. Tischler's claims have merit, especially if Aiyuk's medical checks are satisfactory. But make no mistake; keeping Daniels happy is all that matters.
If that's with Aiyuk, great. If not? That's fine, too.
