Brandon Aiyuk hasn't stepped onto an NFL football field since Week 7 of the 2024 season. At the rate he's headed, that might be the last time he ever does.
Aiyuk has been adamant that he will sign with the Washington Commanders this season once he is released by the San Francisco 49ers, with whom his relationship has rapidly deteriorated. The only problem is that this is general manager Adam Peters' decision, not his.
Washington's appeal for Aiyuk has been all about the chance to play with quarterback Jayden Daniels, his former college teammate at Arizona State, a close friend. Well, apparently not so much anymore.
Brandon Aiyuk just burned his bridge with the Commanders, and everybody should've seen it coming
Aiyuk's latest outburst on Instagram took a series of shots at the 2024 AP Offensive Rookie of the Year, even invoking his relationship with his mother. Daniels responded with a vague image of NBA star Kevin Durant giving the thumbs-down.
I’m off the Aiyuk saga. Bringing on peoples moms is low, even if people agree or not. It lost major entertainment value for me LOL

The two of them have also unfollowed each other on the platform.
Given Aiyuk's bizarre behavior for the past two seasons, none of this should be very surprising.
It was hilarious when Tom Brady called 5 a mommas boy at the Fanatics event & everyone said how Jayden and TB have such a great relationship

BA calls him a mommas boy clearly trolling & yall take it serious cuz u dont like BA & been calling him every name under the sun recently
He is unpredictable and desperate for attention, and the Commanders should not give in. Whatever happened between him and Daniels is their personal business, but if we had to guess, they likely had a difficult conversation in which the third-year passer told him something he didn't want to hear.
Making Daniels the bad guy in this drama is hysterical. No one in the Commanders organization has ever had a negative word to say about his character. Even as he has endured some setbacks along the road to NFL superstardom, the conversation has been all about his humility and his willingness to accept criticism.
Aiyuk, on the other hand, has come across as a perpetual victim throughout his charade, and the same applies here.
Most Commanders fans didn't want to admit it because he had one great season a few years ago and was tight with Daniels, which clearly meant he would be a perfect addition for Washington and we could entirely ignore the many red flags he came with.
Media personalities such as Grant Paulsen and Chris Russell have been raked over the coals by fans to no end for their hesitation on Aiyuk, all for saying what everybody knew deep down was true. The wideout is a petulant child who is not worth the trouble, having played only seven games since his 2023 All-Pro campaign.
Now, here he is biting the hand that could feed him.
At the rate Aiyuk is going, he not only won't be playing for the Commanders this season; he won't be playing anywhere. Front offices want no part of his act, and rightfully so.
Character counts, and Washington has had to learn that the hard way. On the bright side, the Commanders will be dodging a bullet before Aiyuk can inflict any damage on their 2026 season.
