Stefon Diggs is intrigued by the homecoming to the Washington Commanders. General manager Adam Peters is reportedly monitoring the wide receiver's situation. But nothing concrete has emerged about bringing the accomplished veteran into the fold.
And there is a situation brewing with the Kansas City Chiefs that could raise the urgency.
According to reports from Kansas City's camp, Xavier Worthy injured his shoulder after falling awkwardly. The severity is unknown at the moment, but with Cyrus Allen also set for an extended spell on the sidelines, the Chiefs may be looking to bring in additional reinforcements for quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

And Diggs might just be at the top of their list.
That presents a problem for the Commanders if they are seriously considering adding Diggs to their receiver corps. The Chiefs may not be the force of old, but with Mahomes on track to play Week 1, they could be in a better position to contend than the Commanders this season.
If Xavier Worthy has another labral tear or significant AC injury and Cyrus Allen is ruled out for most or all of the season, Stefon Diggs to Chiefs make a ton of sense.

For a player still searching for his elusive first ring, that carries weight.
It was a better practice for the Commanders' wide receivers on Day 4. Washington moved on from primarily red-zone situations and opened up the field more, which led to improvements. Even so, the overall performance level has not been up to the required standard as yet, and several reporters who cover the team are now throwing their weight behind Diggs' arrival.
If they see it, Peters does too.
The big question is why this hasn't happened yet. Diggs might be asking for too much money, or the Commanders may not be satisfied with the baggage he could potentially bring if things don't go well. But with other teams also circling, Washington needs to act quickly if this is the team's chosen route.
Some argue that if Diggs was a legitimate option, he would have been signed by now. But Peters clearly wanted to survey the landscape when things got more intense at camp. It's been a mixed bag so far, which might provoke drastic measures soon if the trajectory doesn't start pointing up consistently.
The Chiefs will not hesitate. If general manager Brett Veach and head coach Andy Reid want Diggs, they will do whatever it takes to sign him quickly. There hasn't been any great rush from the Commanders, but Peters cannot get caught on the back foot to miss out on the possibility entirely.
Diggs' clock is ticking. He will not wait forever for the Commanders. And if the Chiefs come calling, it would probably be a difficult proposition to turn down.
