Stefon Diggs is winning the public argument Commanders won't touch yet

It's becoming a tricky dilemma.

As the headlines diminish around wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk's social media outbursts against the San Francisco 49ers, speculation around a potential move to the Washington Commanders remains. But a growing contingent wants general manager Adam Peters to explore other options.

And they all have one name in mind.

Stefon Diggs is busy working out, staying sharp before his next opportunity comes along. The four-time Pro Bowler has made no secret of his desire to speak to the Commanders about a potential homecoming, but nothing has emerged as yet. That could change if concerns are not alleviated with the options behind Terry McLaurin during training camp, but there is just no telling for sure.

Commanders have a difficult decision as public opinion sways toward Stefon Diggs

Aiyuk has the connection to Jayden Daniels and Peters. Diggs also has baggage, but he remains highly productive. A situation could emerge in which both come on board at some stage. However, that does not appear likely.

It might not be a choice between the two, either. But if it is, Moe Moton of The Bleacher Report added his name to the growing list of those who believe Diggs would be a better option right now.

"Washington should look elsewhere for receiver help—someone who's a free agent and has been on the field over the last year. (Stefon) Diggs could sign a homecoming contract with the Commanders in the coming weeks."

There is a lot of mystery attached here.

Reports earlier in the offseason suggested Washington was in the market for another dependable veteran. Not moving on anyone and their supposed interest in Aiyuk led most to draw their own conclusions, but it's been nothing but radio silence from Peters.

Aiyuk was recently dancing on social media, once again proclaiming that he will soon be with the Commanders. Diggs is sending a different message, displaying explosiveness and looking ready to go in workout videos. Whether these actions will make Peters think differently is anyone's guess. He may even be satisfied with the options he has.

Diggs is more reliable. He's coming off a 1,000-yard season, and though he may be past his peak, the former Maryland standout is still a useful asset to depend upon.

There is no doubt that Aiyuk is the wild card, but he's got more long-term upside if he stays healthy and buys into the culture. If it all goes wrong, the finger of blame will be placed squarely on Peters and Daniels.

Nobody knows what Peters is thinking, which only adds to the intrigue. But in terms of public support, it's split down the middle.
