Brandon Aiyuk isn't the only one with access to a Washington Commanders football…

Veteran free-agent wide receiver Stefon Diggs was recently seen working out at his alma mater, the University of Maryland. At the very start of the video, the experienced pass-catcher is shown using footballs with a Commanders logo.

Probably nothing, but it may also have been a subtle message as his name gets lost in the Aiyuk smoke.

Diggs made it clear that he would like to speak with the Commanders about a possible homecoming at this stage of his career. He's keeping all his options open, but it wasn't hard to dissect what his preferred destination would be if given the chance. That hasn't arrived as yet, and it's starting to look like the scenario may not happen at all.

Stefon Diggs is staying sharp as Commanders delay showing their hand

While Aiyuk is going on a social media tirade against the San Francisco 49ers, proclaiming his potential switch to the Commanders is almost a done deal, Diggs is working. He's staying in shape, waiting for the right offer to come along. And though he may want Washington, the four-time Pro Bowler is not going to wait around forever.

Some fans and media members would now prefer Diggs over Aiyuk if it were a choice between the two. There is no guarantee either comes into the fold, but it's no secret the Commanders are reportedly looking for another veteran receiver with proven production to play opposite Terry McLaurin.

Aiyuk has the connection to quarterback Jayden Daniels, but his actions are causing real concern of late. Diggs also comes with baggage, though he remains highly productive. He went over 1,000 receiving yards with the New England Patriots last season as they reached the Super Bowl. And now that his legal issues are resolved, a market may form in the near future.

General manager Adam Peters hasn't said one way or the other, which only fuels the rumors. The Commanders are examining the landscape, ready to strike at a moment's notice when the situation dictates. Aiyuk is still under contract with the Niners, while Diggs is available right now. But with a few weeks left until training camp begins, there is still time for things to change.

Diggs looks sharp. He looks ready for another chance. He's focused on football and getting his body right. And the message being sent couldn't be much clearer.

Whether this alters anything from the Commanders' standpoint is another matter. But looking at the options currently available, there is no doubt Diggs could help the offense regain respect around the league.

It'll be interesting to see if Diggs gets his wish.
