Stefon Diggs gives Commanders the proof Brandon Aiyuk has not shown

He's working.

Brandon Aiyuk is talking. Stefon Diggs is working.

The Washington Commanders have been linked with both wide receivers throughout the offseason. There is much more smoke around Aiyuk joining the ranks when he is eventually released by the San Francisco 49ers. Still, there are growing segments of the media and fan base who believe Diggs is the better option.

As Diggs continues to wait for another opportunity to present itself, he sent a not-so-subtle message to the Commanders and everyone else.

While Aiyuk made headlines once again with an Instagram post daring the Niners to release him so he can sign with the Commanders, the latest post from Diggs was much different. It showed the wideout running routes and looking sharp, displaying the smooth movements and effortless motion that have made him a four-time Pro Bowler with more than 11,500 receiving yards and 74 touchdowns throughout his career.

Commanders are getting one thing from Stefon Diggs, and another from Brandon Aiyuk

Now, Aiyuk is probably working out, too. Everyone is desperate to see a similar video of him running routes and catching passes, especially after missing so much football. Reports and observations from teammates are one thing. Putting out concrete evidence is something else entirely.

Whether this changes anything from Washington's standpoint is another matter.

It's been weeks since Diggs publicly outlined his desire to speak to Washington about a potential homecoming. In fact, he's put out more than one feeler to the media, and nothing has gotten a response from general manager Adam Peters. There is no telling what the Commanders are thinking behind the scenes, but if an approach was made, someone would have heard about it by now.

Diggs has baggage, too. But unlike Aiyuk, he's coming off a 1,000-yard season where he played a leading role in the New England Patriots' surge to another Super Bowl appearance.

Maybe it's the money involved or the length of commitment it would take to get him on board. But from a performance and reliability standpoint, there is no recent comparison between the two.

Of course, there is much more at play here.

Aiyuk's relationship with quarterback Jayden Daniels is strong. There is a bond that goes much deeper than football, and it matters. Peters knows him well, as does Wes Welker. It represents a gamble of epic proportions, but it does seem like the most realistic outcome.

There is nothing stopping the Commanders from adding both. That would be a potential powder keg in their locker room, but the money is available if they believe it's the right thing to do. Terry McLaurin is the only sure thing right now, and with the stakes so high in 2026, it's certainly feasible.

Unrealistic, but feasible.

Diggs is trying to get noticed. He's trying to remind the world why he was considered among the league's best playmakers once upon a time. As for Aiyuk? He's taking his disdain for the Niners public, in the faint hope of getting cut quickly. Given who he's dealing with, it might even strengthen their resolve.

What the future holds is undetermined. But as things stand right now, it'll probably be Aiyuk over Diggs.

And what comes after that will have major implications.
