Brandon Aiyuk may have finally found the restraint Commanders needed to see

Silence is golden in this instance.

Brandon Aiyuk caused a significant stir on social media, blasting the San Francisco 49ers while also declaring his obvious desire to sign with the Washington Commanders when he is eventually released by the club.

Now, there is silence once again. And that is not a bad thing by any stretch.

The Commanders were reportedly interested in acquiring Aiyuk, but it's unclear whether that's still the case. They were reluctant to trade for the wide receiver, and general manager Adam Peters has not spoken about the matter throughout this drawn-out saga. Everything has simmered down a little, which could mean the second-team All-Pro is finally listening to somebody.

Brandon Aiyuk's recent social media silence might be golden for the Commanders

His outbursts are unlikely to get noticed much by the Niners. They have moved on, focused on other things before the new campaign. Aiyuk only brought more scrutiny on himself, which he didn't need. The endgame seems obvious, but the timeline remains sketchy. And this could make it even worse.

Aiyuk hasn't posted for a while. Maybe he's said all that he wanted. Or maybe someone has been in his ear about the right way to go about things. NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero outlined what that could be, which centers on applying for reinstatement or showing up when the Niners report for training camp.

"We'll see if somebody can get in his ear and give him the correct advice now, moving forward, that, dude, you got to just file for reinstatement, show up to the facility," Pelissero said. "They're either going to reinstate you to their roster, which is highly unlikely, or they're going to cut you loose."

There doesn't seem much chance of Aiyuk showing his face in Santa Clara. Stranger things have happened, and if it is the only way to provoke the Niners into action, he must consider it.

As for the Commanders? Nobody knows what they are thinking about the situation.

No doubt Peters has received good reports from quarterback Jayden Daniels, a close friend of Aiyuk. Washington's front-office leader has strong connections in San Francisco, so he can get their side of the story as well. His actions may not be looked upon favorably, but if he is convinced that the Commanders' culture can help keep the former Arizona State playmaker on the right path, it's something he'll seriously consider.

Aiyuk made his point. He kept his name in the headlines and caused controversy. But now, it should be about sitting tight and making the right moves to ensure he gets a shot to play again, potentially for Washington, in 2026.

Getting some sound advice would be a good place to start. That won't be from the Commanders, who do not need tampering allegations at their door. But hopefully, it will come from somebody.

Otherwise, there are no guarantees about what the future might hold for Aiyuk.
