The Washington Commanders remain constantly linked to wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. These rumors have swirled even more in the last week, with the player posting a picture in a team cap while also declaring all-out war on the San Francisco 49ers for their handling of the situation.

Some still believe the Commanders are his next destination. One Niners insider also thinks there could be a quicker end to the saga than people think. Nobody knows for sure what's going on, but a San Francisco beat writer believes there is one key above all else.

General manager Adam Peters.

Jennifer Lee Chan from NBC Sports thought that if anyone was going to take a gamble on Aiyuk, it would be Peters. Couple this with the wideout's clear desire to join the club and his close friendship with Jayden Daniels, and the end to this ongoing soap opera has a sense of inevitability.

"If anyone is going to take a risk on Brandon Aiyuk, it would potentially be Adam Peters. There is a connection there. And obviously, he's great friends with Jayden Daniels.

"That's the only football player he follows now. He posted himself in a Washington Commanders hat. He follows the team. Obviously, he's channeling that he wants to go there, but this is an as the world turns moment for the NFL here."

Peters praised Aiyuk during the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine, but couldn't say much else. He's not exactly known for releasing team secrets before they are due, which only heightens the mystery. Most national insiders have reported Washington's interest, but there has been almost no movement for months.

And that is unlikely to change.

The Commanders may want Aiyuk, but they are not forcing the issue. There will be no trade, according to reports. Peters knows that eventually, the Niners will have no choice but to release him. That might not be until much later in the summer, but it's a gamble he is willing to take.

The situation has become tiresome. Aiyuk's social media outbursts reeked of frustration and desperation. He wants a fresh start, and if the Niners believe that no trade suitor can be found, keeping him around is nothing short of pure pettiness.

Peters will have all the necessary information. He's thorough, and he leaves absolutely nothing to chance. Daniels will be giving him good references around Aiyuk, and he's probably got a good lay of the land from San Francisco's side of things, too.

Whatever decision Peters makes, fans should trust his judgment. At the same time, this is far from a sure thing.
