The shockwaves are still reverberating around the NFL after the Washington Commanders signed veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs. It represented a major statement of intent, one that has been met with widespread approval in the hours after the news broke.
When reacting to the development on his Speakeasy podcast, former Pro Bowl wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh thought the Commanders have struck gold with Diggs.
His ability to win matchups and prolific previous production are precisely what this team needed alongside Terry McLaurin. If the new arrival keeps focused firmly on football and nothing else, it's all systems go.
Stefon Diggs can bring the fear factor back to Commanders' offense
Fans will be hoping for the same.

Diggs obviously had Washington as his preferred destination. Are there potential issues if things don't go well? Of course, but with a one-year deal that could be worth up to $12 million, it was a risk well worth taking.
Houshmandzadeh believes Diggs was an outstanding addition. He instantly becomes the best running mate McLaurin has ever had. His ability to bring out the best in quarterbacks is only going to help Jayden Daniels, and having two wideouts who demand attention is going to make things easier for everybody else.

The former Maryland star was pushing for a homecoming. Now, he's got it, and it's an opportunity Diggs won't want to waste.
What that means for the other pass-catchers at Washington's disposal is unclear. But in all honesty, it doesn't matter.
Commanders got better overnight by signing Stefon Diggs, and that's the biggest positive
There is a real need for the Commanders to respond positively after securing just five wins last season. The breakout hopefuls have all flashed over training camp, but none have the accomplishments Diggs brings to the table. And the fact he joined the Commanders indicates he is willing to be a complementary piece with McLaurin as the top dog.
The Commanders are a better team today than they were yesterday. And for general manager Adam Peters, that's the biggest priority.
Diggs is a difference-maker. He makes things happen and always comes to the fore when the stakes are highest. The four-time Pro Bowler might be in his career twilight, but going over 1,000 receiving yards on 55 percent of snaps with the New England Patriots last season means there is still plenty of good football left.

This has been on the cards for a while. The Commanders and Diggs have been in constant communication throughout the offseason, and now a deal has been done. And if everyone on offense stays healthy, David Blough's unit will be tough to stop in 2026.
It's a fascinating addition.
Diggs wanted an emotional homecoming, and the one-year agreement gives the Commanders an out if things don't quite go according to plan. That's the sort of mutually beneficial agreement everyone can get behind, and being closer to home will provide the player with a comfort level he hasn't had in his illustrious career to date.
Houshmandzadeh approves. Looking at the reaction of Washington fans on social media after reports of the signing surfaced, he isn't alone in that regard.
