Stefon Diggs is now on the Washington Commanders. The wide receiver has reportedly signed a one-year deal worth up to $12 million for an emotional homecoming, but there are some concerns about the culture fit and whether he can toe the line enough to make a considerable impact.
That's to be determined. But the comments made by one New England Patriots expert should go a long way to calming the fears of some Commanders fans.
Sara Marshall of Musket Fire acknowledged there were the same doubts around Diggs when he landed in New England. However, the four-time Pro Bowler proved himself as a valuable teammate and dependable option to help quarterback Drake Maye's surge into the NFL MVP conversation.

If he has the same impact in Washington, that is only going to help Jayden Daniels bounce back.
"There were a lot of concerns about Stefon Diggs when he initially signed with the Patriots in 2025. But from the moment he joined the Patriots, he was an incredible teammate and a vocal leader, even working with the defense in practice and during games, so he quickly became an invaluable part of the roster.
"He went on to record 1,000+ receiving yards for New England for the first time since Julian Edelman in 2020, which was great, but he did fall off a bit in the postseason when Drake Maye needed him most.
"That’s certainly a concern now that he’s with the Commanders and they hope to repeat their recent playoff success, but he should have no issue adapting to working alongside Jayden Daniels and should be a reliable option on game day, all while being a solid teammate."
Accusations of being a diva receiver have followed Diggs around for years. He's had public disagreements with Kirk Cousins and Josh Allen. Injuries decimated any chance he had of making an impact with the Houston Texans, but his one year in New England provided redemption.
Diggs went above and beyond to help. He stayed professional, focused, and healthy. As Marshall stated, his production did regress slightly in the playoffs, but it was an immensely positive impact overall.
The Commanders are expecting the same.
They were desperately short of consistency behind Terry McLaurin on the depth chart. Some of the young breakout hopefuls have caught the eye over the early stages of training camp, but the Commanders needed a sure thing.
They now have it.
Staying focused will ensure Stefon Diggs excels with the Commanders
Diggs might be approaching the end, and some of his explosiveness may have disappeared, but he's got traits that cannot be taught.
His elite-level mindset and firm belief in being the best make him the man for the big moments. Diggs' experience makes him a threat all over the field, so placing him opposite McLaurin will be a difficult proposition for opposing coverages to overcome.
There is a chance it doesn't work out, but general manager Adam Peters was never going to offer anything more than a one-year deal. Diggs is in a prove-it year, and it's clear that the hunger still burns.
It's been a long time coming, too.
Speculation around Diggs has been rife for months. Peters doesn't divulge anything before it's due, which meant it was a guessing game for almost everybody. The former Maryland star wanted Washington, and the reports of constant communication throughout the offseason indicate the feeling was mutual.
If Diggs can stay healthy and focused, this will be an outstanding signing for the Commanders. He is a born winner who has high demands for himself and his teammates. That alone is a great locker room fit, and playing second fiddle to McLaurin could potentially give him even more opportunities to flourish.
The concerns are legitimate. But if the Diggs who showed up in New England is the one Washington also gets, it's a risk well worth taking.
