Stefon Diggs had his heart set on a homecoming to the Washington Commanders this season. After months of waiting, general manager Adam Peters granted his wish.
According to reports, Diggs has signed a one-year deal that could be worth up to $12 million with incentives. This gives the Commanders a legitimate WR2 to put alongside Terry McLaurin, which should help their chances of bouncing back after a down year in 2025.
And if Diggs meets his markers, the Commanders will have hit the jackpot.

This is a low-risk, high-reward pickup by the Commanders. They had to do something, and Peters managed to get the best remaining option sitting on the market.
It's that simple, really.
Diggs wanted to be in Washington. Several Commanders players lobbied for the move on social media. Peters doesn't do anything publicly, but the club kept in constant communication with the player's representatives. After a few training camp practices, a deal has now been done.
And it's got the scope to make a massive difference.
Though Diggs may be along the lines of the aging veterans Peters typically relied on last season without much success, he's got a lot going for him. The wideout knows how to get open, is as dependable a pass-catcher as they come, and always seems to come up with the goods when the lights are brightest.
Aside from McLaurin, the Commanders didn't have anyone else boasting these credentials.
Until now.
This news brought an instant lift to fans on social media. Confidence is growing that the Commanders will be much more competitive in 2026. And even though Diggs won't solve every problem, he will get them a lot closer to achieving this goal.
Diggs can create separation effortlessly. He is a route technician who identifies soft spots in zone quickly, cutting on a dime and turning his body upfield for yards-after-catch opportunities. The explosiveness has diminished since his prime years, but he represents a huge upgrade to the WR2 role.

It's only a one-year deal. If it doesn't work out, the Commanders can move on swiftly after the season and turn their attention to drafting one of the top college receivers in the 2027 NFL Draft.
But if it works out, and Diggs displays the work ethic, focus, and production required, one couldn't dismiss another contract being on the table, either.
Peters was never going to overcommit with a two-year agreement. Diggs knew it, and he's willing to bet on himself with a chance to play closer to home. The Commanders are clearly satisfied he won't be a problem off the field. And when this decision was reached, there was only one outcome.
Diggs is a good player. With Daniels throwing him the football, that is unlikely to change.
And Peters deserves enormous credit for doing what's required to take the Commanders back to where they belong.
