Stefon Diggs sends Commanders another message they cannot misunderstand

There is no doubt about his next preferred stop.

The Washington Commanders and Stefon Diggs remain hotly linked, at least in the media. General manager Adam Peters hasn't shown his hand as yet, but the veteran wide receiver has made no secret of his desire to potentially play closer to home at this late stage of his career.

And he continues to make this crystal clear on social media.

Diggs is keeping a close eye on Washington this offseason. A couple of players have publicly expressed interest in bringing the wideout on, and the player has responded positively. The former Maryland star also commented on a post from rapper Wale, who was in attendance for a workout arranged by quarterback Jayden Daniels and his offensive teammates.

Stefon Diggs continues to make his Commanders intensions clear amid ongoing rumors

Whether Diggs will become one of them in the near future is the big question nobody knows the answer to right now.

He's working hard to make sure he's ready to hit the ground running when his next opportunity arises. Diggs wants the Commanders, but he is not going to wait around forever. Perhaps the pending legal issue is putting off Peters or anyone else from taking the plunge, but from a performance standpoint and nothing more, this looks like an obvious upgrade opposite Terry McLaurin.

If the Commanders don't acquire another veteran pass-catcher, they would be relying on either inexperienced or unknown quantities to step up. It would be a massive shock if someone didn't take their game to new heights in David Blough's offense, but there is no telling for sure.

That's a risk the Commanders might not be able to afford with the stakes so high this season. And even though Diggs would be nothing more than a short-term fix, there is some merit to making his homecoming dream a reality.

It's a fluid situation. Diggs has baggage, but he's ready to go. Brandon Aiyuk was a hot name earlier in the offseason, but that seems to be fading with every ill-advised Instagram post. Daniels is working hard to develop chemistry with the options currently available, but the need for more cannot be overstated.

Diggs doesn't believe there is a better available option. He doesn't believe there is a WR2 better than him in the league. That may not be true, but it's a sign of his self-confidence and his emphatic statement to teams examining his credentials in greater detail.

Washington might be his first choice. But until Peters shows his hand one way or another, it's difficult to say whether he is being considered.

Even so, if Diggs has any say in the matter, he'll be in a Washington uniform by the time Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles rolls around.
