The Washington Commanders have stayed relatively silent regarding their potential interest in any new wide receivers. General manager Adam Peters isn't exactly known for showing his hand, which is why Stefon Diggs' clear desire for a homecoming hasn't been met with a public response as yet.
That might be different behind the scenes, but there is no telling for sure. And a recent revelation from ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler hinted at the wideout's market heating up with training camp on the immediate horizon.
Diggs has repeatedly said he would be intrigued by a move to Washington. He's received public support from a couple of Commanders players — Charles Omenihu and K'Lavon Chaisson. Nothing has materialized as yet, but Peters might want to act quickly if he is legitimately considering the former Maryland star.
Commanders have bided their time on Stefon Diggs, but others are now circling
Fowler revealed on NFL Live that at least five teams have checked in on Diggs, and that he will have a market the closer we get to training camp. There is confidence that he could be better after putting up exceptional numbers on a snap count one year removed from an ACL injury, but where that'll be remains undetermined.

The Commanders could be among those who have reached out. Then again, they might be content with what they have rather than focusing on a short-term fix.
That's a much bigger gamble, of course.
Washington's offense is not blessed with proven production behind Terry McLaurin, and fans have every right to be concerned. But if the new scheme installed by David Blough helps put the young breakout hopefuls in better positions to succeed, that might be enough.
Fowler also acknowledged that the team Diggs joins next needs to be good and have a quarterback who can handle him. The Commanders have precisely that in Jayden Daniels, but whether they could be classed as a legitimate playoff contender after how badly things fell flat last season is highly debatable.
Diggs is seemingly willing to forego this for a chance to play closer to home at this late stage of his playing career. He's also not going to wait around forever, and if another chance arrives with a decent club who are willing to put up the money, the four-time Pro Bowler will seriously consider the possibility.
If the Commanders were seriously interested in Diggs, the move would have probably happened by now. There is another legal issue pending after one was successfully resolved, which is off-putting. Peters may also be looking for someone younger and quicker, rather than another aging veteran.
That is more in keeping with the way he's gone about his business this offseason, but finding someone who can help right now is imperative.
It's been an offseason full of speculation, hearsay, and everything in between. But fortunately, fans should get some answers soon.
And nobody could say with any great confidence what Peters has up his sleeve.
