It's all hands on deck for the Washington Commanders as they look to pull off a major upset against the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football. This is a daunting challenge, but the last time head coach Dan Quinn's squad was written off this season, they beat the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks.

And if wide receiver Stefon Diggs can play, their chances will improve.

Diggs missed last weekend's game against the New York Giants with a hamstring issue. The Commanders have been cautious this week, knowing these problems can flare up quickly if they don't get enough time to heal.

The four-time Pro Bowler will be eager to return and continue his solid start to the campaign.

Diggs might not be putting up All-Pro-caliber numbers these days, but nobody expected him to. He's a dependable option who knows how to get open quickly, and his leadership in the locker room is another big plus for a team desperate for inspiration.

Washington was comfortable enough with Diggs traveling to Santa Clara, but his status for the clash remains in doubt. We'll keep you up to date here with all the latest news as we get it.

Latest update on Stefon Diggs' status for Commanders vs. 49ers in Week 6

The Commanders have officially listed Diggs as questionable for the contest. It looks like the receiver will be put through a pre-game workout before his status is officially confirmed, but the fact that he wasn't listed as doubtful or ruled out entirely is a positive sign for all involved.

What Dan Quinn said

"He's traveling. I'll have all the way until Monday this week to make decisions, so far as who's playing and who's not. But to get everybody back in and going was a big deal for us."

Previous updates

Fans were concerned when Diggs was listed as a non-participant in practice on Thursday. Fortunately, he was able to feature on a limited basis on Friday and Saturday, leading to his questionable status for the prime-time showdown at Levi's Stadium.

Diggs looked in good spirits as he went through drills. Reports suggest it wasn't at full pace, but he was moving relatively well. Much will depend on how he comes through these sessions, but the Commanders will give him every chance to feature.

What this means for the Commanders

The Commanders haven't had Diggs, Terry McLaurin, and Jayden Daniels on the field together much this season. This trio is integral to their offensive fortunes, and if the Maryland product gets the all-clear, that will give everyone a massive boost at the right time.

Diggs is a competitor. He makes life easier for his quarterback, and there is growing trust between the wideout and Daniels that should be an asset against a decent-looking defense.

He won't solve every problem, but having Diggs available would get the Commanders a lot closer.

If the Commanders aren't entirely satisfied with his progress, others will have to fill the void again. McLaurin is the focal point with or without Diggs. Third-round rookie Antonio Williams can shoulder extra responsibilities, and Treylon Burks also flashes when his number is called.

But the Commanders need Diggs. It might not be for every rep, but contributing something would be better than nothing.
