6 winners (and 2 losers) from Commanders' phenomenal upset over the Seahawks

Well, who saw this coming?

Almost nobody, in truth.

The Washington Commanders pulled off an upset of epic proportions, stunning the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks in Week 3. Most had written them off, especially without quarterback Jayden Daniels. But this proved beyond a doubt that this squad still has plenty of fight left.

The team showed incredible urgency right out of the gate. The Commanders came to play, flying around the field on defense while being efficient offensively. They were massive underdogs heading into the game, but they were not going to go down without a fight.

And when the stakes were highest, some unlikely heroes came to the fore and finally put the Commanders in the win column.

The Commanders are still in a precarious situation. But after stunning the Seahawks, Washington now has a glimmer of hope as it heads to London for an international game against the Indianapolis Colts next week.

Winner No. 1

Sonny Styles - Commanders LB

The Commanders have a potential superstar in rookie linebacker Sonny Styles. He's found his groove quickly. His comfort level is growing, and he is starting to make a significant difference at the defensive second level.

With Frankie Luvu unavailable and Leo Chenal leaving the game with a scary-looking neck injury, Styles had to step up. The Ohio State product delivered, coming through almost constantly to play a leading role in Washington's phenomenal triumph.

Styles forced a fumble, secured an interception, was credited with two pass breakups, communicated effectively pre-snap, and made his tackles count. The first-year player still isn't satisfied, but that's what makes his eye-catching opening to the campaign all the more exciting.

The No. 7 pick is only going to get better. That is a scary thought.

Winner No. 2

Terry McLaurin - Commanders WR

With Jayden Daniels watching from the sidelines with another dislocated elbow, veteran backup quarterback Marcus Mariota needed his top-level playmakers to step up. And not for the first time throughout his prolific career, wide receiver Terry McLaurin came to the fore.

It's been an indifferent start to the season for McLaurin. The Philadelphia Eagles blanketed him, and the two-time Pro Bowler was quiet against the Dallas Cowboys, too. That all changed in Week 3, which was exactly what the Commanders needed at an important time.

McLaurin became a strong safety valve for Mariota in crucial moments. His touchdown catch was nothing short of sensational, and he would have had another if not for a dubious call.

This was the sort of performance that fans have come to expect from the wideout. More importantly, he was hugely influential in the overall outcome.

With six catches from nine targets for 77 receiving yards and a touchdown, McLaurin was sensational. And hopefully, this trend continues over the remaining 15 games.
