It's no secret that free-agent wide receiver Stefon Diggs is intrigued by a potential move to the Washington Commanders. ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler once again relayed this information to the public, along with an intriguing caveat that could tip things in the player's favor.
Fowler believes that Diggs is willing to accept being a No. 2 wide receiver with a good young quarterback at this stage of his playing career. The Commanders have one of those in Jayden Daniels, and his presence in the area makes him an intriguing complementary piece opposite Terry McLaurin for the LSU product to depend on.
"Really good No. 2 receiver for a top quarterback. Washington is intriguing to him. Because of Jayden Daniels, young quarterback. He’s from that DMV area. The rumors around the league are that Washington could add a receiver at some point to go with (Terry) McLaurin."
Fowler has previously stated that the Commanders might be looking to add more speed in their wideout room before Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles. That's to be determined, but there is no doubt Diggs has more consistent production than anyone outside of McLaurin right now.

Some fans are concerned. Others want to give the young guys a chance. McLaurin thinks someone will step up, but there is just no telling who that will be in the regular-season pressure cooker.
General manager Adam Peters might let things play out over the early stages of training camp before making a judgment. However, with at least five teams supposedly monitoring Diggs, this possible option might not be on the table for much longer.
The fact that Diggs' camp is putting out the word regarding his WR2 acceptance is telling. He's been a problem when sufficient targets haven't come his way, or he's not been the focal point. Now, there is a willingness to take a back seat, and with McLaurin as the alpha in Washington, he would be able to do just that.
Whether the Commanders will reciprocate this interest is another matter. Diggs has stated his desire for a homecoming on multiple occasions over the offseason, but nothing has materialized as yet. Peters hasn't moved on him or any other veteran pass-catcher still sitting on the market. The former Maryland standout clearly has a preference regarding his next destination, but at the end of the day, it's not up to him.
It'll be interesting to see if the Commanders acquire anybody in their receiver room. Peters might do nothing, but if he eventually decides more is needed, Diggs would be a decent option.
