There is an enormous amount of excitement around the addition of wide receiver Stefon Diggs. That is not an opinion shared by everyone, and one analyst even questioned whether he would finish the season with the Washington Commanders.
The Commanders needed another veteran pass-catcher to help quarterback Jayden Daniels, and this was always their No. 1 option. Considering how Diggs' preference was always on a homecoming, this looks like a win-win for everybody.
Diggs has slotted in well and is eager to make a success of his latest opportunity. However, Matt Johnson of Sportsnaut thought the Commanders could look to get something in return for the wideout if things don't go well before the trade deadline.

This would be an astonishing development. But it's also clear Johnson is not high on Washington's chances of making the improvements needed this season.
"Not only is an in-season firing of Dan Quinn on the table, but it would not surprise us if general manager Adam Peters opted to sell off some veteran talent in early November.
"Terry McLaurin’s contract extension means he will not leave, but veteran wideout Stefon Diggs is playing on a one-year deal. If he can replicate what he did last season with the New England Patriots, that $8 million cap hit for a very effective WR2 will make him coveted around the league."
The Commanders have a tough start heading into their Week 7 bye. Head coach Dan Quinn's squad must weather an early storm, and Diggs will be a big part of any success that comes the offense's way.
If things go off the rails, nothing should be off the table. But for now, entertaining this notion is incredibly foolish.
Nobody is taking the glass-half-empty approach in the building. The Commanders are dealing with some issues, but the pessimism from some sections of the media is merely wild speculation at this point.

The preseason could have gone better, but the Commanders didn't risk their key stars for most of it. Washington's new offensive and defensive schemes haven't shown anything either, so those writing them off have no substance attached whatsoever.
Diggs has been known to make things difficult when things aren't going well, but that was earlier in his career. Recent years have seen praise for his leadership and willingness to mentor younger players.
That won't change in Washington; not when he waited so long to get his wish.
Could that change? Possibly. But it's extremely doubtful all the same.
If the Commanders fall off a cliff and it becomes clear that big changes are afoot when the 2027 offseason arrives, Peters may shift course. But nobody in the franchise is thinking about that right now.
It's all about moving forward positively, turning the page, and doing what's required to be more competitive after mustering just five wins in 2025.
Nothing else will suffice.
Whichever way it goes, trading Diggs would be on the drastic side of things. And until proven otherwise, this is just a very bold projection.
Let's hope it stays that way.
