Deebo Samuel Sr. is still looking for work after the Washington Commanders didn't bring him back in free agency, and one NFL analyst highlighted a potential connection from last season that could be rekindled elsewhere.

The wide receiver performed well in difficult circumstances in 2025. Samuel was initially expected to be a complementary piece to go alongside Terry McLaurin. When the Commanders' alpha missed considerable time due to injury, he had to become a focal point. It was an admirable effort, but not having quarterback Jayden Daniels on the field for long periods was simply too much to overcome.

It's surprising to see Samuel on the proverbial scrap heap with just a few short weeks left until training camps begin around the league. Perhaps he is waiting for the right fit, or perhaps the NFL believes he is well past his peak. Both could be true, but the South Carolina product can still be useful in the right fit.

Rams tabbed as ideal fit for Deebo Samuel after short-lived Commanders spell

Bryan DeArdo of CBS Sports thought Samuel would be a great addition to the Los Angeles Rams' receiver room. He'd be firmly behind Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, but his ability in the short- to intermediate-range of the field offers something different. And considering the NFC West club is forming a super team, this would be a difficult proposition to turn down.

"Injuries have hindered (Deebo) Samuel throughout his career, which is why his next team should use him sparingly to increase his chances of staying healthy for the season. In that vein, the Rams make a lot of sense given what they already have at receiver.

"In Los Angeles, Samuel could complement Davante Adams and Puka Nacua while giving league MVP Matthew Stafford yet another weapon. It's safe to say Sean McVay would have a field day designing plays for the versatile Samuel."

If the Rams investigate this possibility further, Kliff Kingsbury's opinion will be vital. He worked with Samuel in Washington last season, and praised the player heavily throughout the campaign. Reconnecting in the California sunshine would help smooth his transition, but the financial aspect could be a stumbling block.

The Rams are not blessed with much spare cash, especially after securing a blockbuster trade for All-Pro defensive end Myles Garrett. Samuel would need to accept a low, incentivized deal for this to become feasible, but there would be a legitimate chance to win a ring in Los Angeles.

Samuel has made a lot of money throughout his career. Getting the chance to compete for and potentially hoist the Vince Lombardi Trophy may be more important, and there would be no better place to do so than with the Rams.

Obviously, it's just speculation. But given the Rams are in win-now mode, it couldn't be completely dismissed.

As for the Commanders? They have their own problems at receiver behind McLaurin. But it seems as if their relationship with Samuel was a one-and-done affair.

It'll be interesting to see where Samuel lands next. If that happens to be the Rams, he should be overjoyed.
