The Washington Commanders made a lot of splash signings over the offseason. General manager Adam Peters' decision to acquire running back Rachaad White went completely under the radar in comparison, but a strong start to life with the club is raising expectations exponentially.

And this is not going unnoticed by those who cover White's old employers.

While the previous connection to quarterback Jayden Daniels no doubt tipped the scales in his favor, he's also got some outstanding production on his four-year résumé with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He eventually fell behind Bucky Irving in the pecking order, but his dual-threat ability and underrated work as a pass blocker could be a revelation in Washington.

Buccaneers expert projects big things for Rachaad White with the Commanders

Josh Crysler of The Pewter Plank has already taken note of the impact White has had on Washington's offseason program.

He believes the Arizona State product is capable of gaining 1,000 yards from scrimmage once again. And given the money it cost the Commanders to get him on board, this addition could also become among the offseason's biggest heists if everything goes well.

“White is in prime position to take on the workload he’s been hoping for, and could very well eclipse 1,000 yards from scrimmage, something he did twice in Tampa Bay. For a mere $2 million, White could prove to be the biggest steal of free agency, and one of the best values in the NFL in 2026.”

This is something that Commanders fans should be figuring out by now. Washington may be moving forward with a committee approach in its backfield under new offensive coordinator David Blough, but White has the dynamism, vision, and experience to be a focal point.

The motivation of another contract year only adds more fuel to his fire.

Excitement is growing around White. He's a focused, driven player who causes no complications. He does what is asked, and has developed a flair for the big occasion. The Commanders will feature him heavily in the passing attack, but don't be surprised if he also manages to carve out the lion's share of carries alongside Jacory Croskey-Merritt and others.

Daniels trusts him fully. The Commanders' coaching staff have been impressed with the traits displayed so far. Things will get more intense over training camp, but he's knowledgeable enough to know when to turn the screw.

That matters a lot.

White is firmly in his prime. The best is yet to come, and the Commanders will be counting upon him heavily.

It's early days, and there will be many twists to come, but it would be a big surprise if White didn't make a significant contribution when the regular season arrives.

And if that happens, he can expect a much larger financial commitment in 2027.
