The Washington Football Team is set to enter free agency in just a few days and the most pressing need is a franchise quarterback.

Oh so close!  The NFL 2021 season is set to arrive in less than one week.  The Washington Football Team has already taken some initial steps by placing a franchise tag on offensive guard Brandon Scherff.  They have also jettisoned quarterback Alex Smith and linebacker Shaun Dion Hamilton.  More cuts are coming, but new additions are just around the corner.

Players that will not be re-signed include Ryan Kerrigan and Ryan Anderson.  There are additional players who will be released, but the list is a bit lengthy.  Several players are candidates to be re-signed and they include Ronald Darby, Dustin Hopkins, Kyle Allen (tendered – ERFA), Cam Sims (tendered – RFA), and more.  Free agency is more than signing new players.  It is also a time to focus on the current roster and retool accordingly.  However, Washington has an ample amount of salary cap space and they are expected to be active in the free agent market.

One position that could receive plenty of attention in free agency is the all-important franchise quarterback.  Washington may have multiple opportunities to add a coveted signal caller in addition to signing one in free agency.  A trade could occur at any moment.  Washington may opt to select an elite quarterback in the NFL Draft.  For today, our focus will center on free agent quarterbacks.

Welcome back to our final installment of the winter free agent series.  It has been quite a ride since late January.  Here are the units we analyzed – in case you missed any:
