The Washington Redskins Week 6 battle with the San Francisco 49ers is finally here. They have  a chance to improve to 3-2 with a victory.

Game day is upon us once again. After a bye week, the Redskins are coming home with a 2-2 record looking to keep pace in the Wild Card race. Currently locked in to second place in the NFC East, a win would allow them to stay in front of the Dallas Cowboys and somewhat keep pace with the surging 5-1 Philadelphia Eagles. To do that, they will first have to get through the 49ers.

The 49ers don’t project to be that tough of an opponent. They have a young defense that needs more time to improve in the new 4-3 scheme that was installed this offseason. Their offense is led by the inconsistent Brian Hoyer and is still very much a work in progress. Still, there is some intrigue to this game.

Kyle Shanahan and Pierre Garcon are making their respective returns to Washington. The duo both had profound impact on the team in the time they were here. Shanahan worked with Kirk Cousins early in his career and helped him to develop into a solid NFL starter. Garcon was one of the most consistent receivers on the Redskins roster, and had one of the most reliable pairs of hands in the NFL. There’s no doubt that this duo will be motivated to beat the Redskins and play the role of spoiler.

At the same time, Jay Gruden and his coaching staff have had two weeks to get ready for San Francisco. They definitely focused on the 49ers and made sure that the team realized this could be a trap game. With so many predicting the Redskins to win big and with two key NFC East clashes coming up, Gruden needs to make sure that the team doesn’t overlook the 49ers. That would be a bad look for the team and would seriously hurt their chances of making the playoffs.

One of the keys to this contest will be how the Redskins are able to perform without Josh Norman. Their star cornerback is set to miss this game with a rib injury and Quinton Dunbar is going to play in place of him. Washington has to make sure that Dunbar is ready to take on a starting role, and he certainly is going to be one of the top players to watch in this week’s contest.

With all that said, this game should be a win for the Redskins, and many are predicting a victory. The team just has the advantage on both sides of the ball, and Gruden is the more experienced head coach. Things could change, but right now, this looks like an easy win for the Skins.
