The Washington Redskins have a lot to sort out with Josh Norman out. Thankfully, they are deep at cornerback and have options for how to replace him.

When Josh Norman went down with a rib injury in Week 4 for the Washington Redskins, there was immediate cause for concern. Norman is arguably the best defensive player on the team, and they had some difficulty containing the Chiefs offense when he went down. Initial diagnoses pegged Norman’s return time to be right after the team’s Week 5 bye, so many were not worried about being without him.

However, during the bye week, it became apparent that the Redskins would be missing Norman for a longer period of time. Norman had suffered minor lung damage in addition to the rib injury, and he is set to miss four weeks as a result. While that will only be three games, the Redskins are still definitely going to miss him.

The bright side to this bad news is that the Redskins have some solid depth at cornerback. They don’t necessarily have an embarrassment of riches, but they have some quality players who should be able to step up as and replace Norman. They won’t offer the same level of coverage as him, but with Bashaud Breeland faring well, the replacements won’t have to. Breeland can step into the No. 1 role for a few weeks and hopefully he will be able to hold up well.

With that said, the Redskins are still going to be looking for some contributors to come off the bench and into the starting lineup. The team does have a lot of options, but some make far more sense than the others. Here’s a look at the players who could step up and the roles that they are likely to play in the coming few games.
