Stefon Diggs has taken to the Washington Commanders' locker room culture like a duck to water. Nobody was expecting anything less from the veteran wide receiver, who fought hard for his dream homecoming and wants to make a success of this long-awaited opportunity.

Head coach Dan Quinn has loved what he's seen from Diggs so far. And it's not just the on-field prowess that has caught his eye.

During a conversation with The Sports Junkies on 106.7 The Fan before Day 12 of training camp, Quinn instantly beamed when discussing Diggs' early impact. The pass-catching and route-running speak for themselves, but his intelligence and growing voice as a leader have been equally, if not more, impressive.

Stefon Diggs' seamless transition to the Commanders has not gone unnoticed

And getting him in now, rather than panicking just before Week 1, provided the acclimation period needed to slot in seamlessly.

"He's got excellent football IQ, football acumen. That's something that you don't know about somebody until they're in your building or on the practice field with you. It's been nice for some of the other players to hear his view on certain things. He's off to a really good start.

"Although it's a new system, he's played a lot of football. His understanding of where we're at is certainly gaining. It's nice to have him here now, where we still get a couple more weeks as opposed to Week 1."

There were obvious reservations around Diggs, and with good reason.

He's had a diva reputation follow him around throughout his time in the league, and there were some off-the-field issues that gave teams enough reasons to pause. However, that completely ignores the maturity shown on and off the field in recent years.

The All-Pro pass-catcher was a leader and mentor with the New England Patriots. The reports were glowing in Houston, though a torn ACL ended Diggs' hope of making a considerable impact. But the talk of him being a difficult teammate is way wide of the mark now.

Stefon Diggs' diva-like persona is quickly becoming yesterday's news with the Commanders

The Commanders believe Diggs can help them. Terry McLaurin and quarterback Jayden Daniels have been highly encouraged with what they've seen so far, and Quinn agrees. Considering the team-friendly deal signed by the four-time Pro Bowler to make his Washington dream a reality, it could have the makings of an absolute steal.

Could it go wrong? Sure, but it would be surprising.

Diggs believes in the project. He believes in Daniels. The former Maryland standout believes he can make a significant difference working opposite McLaurin within offensive coordinator David Blough's scheme. And he also believes the young players looking to grow into valuable contributors will benefit greatly from his expertise.

And everything is proceeding as planned so far.

The narrative is already changing around Diggs. He'll never stop being a flashy personality; that's just not in his nature. But he also knows there isn't long left before retirement, and how he's eventually remembered matters.

The Commanders value their culture highly. It's something Quinn worked hard to build, and anyone who doesn't fully buy in won't last long. While it's still early days, Diggs is embracing it, and the glowing references from some influential people in the building indicate he's been extremely well received.

It's so far, so good with Diggs. And his journey in Washington is only just beginning.

Once he becomes more familiar with everything, it's all systems go.
