Ron Rivera on Commanders' process

There's been one key theme for head coach Ron Rivera throughout another dramatic offseason for the Washington Commanders. That is keeping to his original plan and avoiding any rash moves to save his job as new owners enter the fold.

The group led by Josh Harris is currently going through various stages of approval before their purchase of the Commanders is confirmed. Once this gets rubber-stamped, Rivera will be one of the league's most precarious coaches entering Year 4 of his tenure.

This is something Rivera's obviously aware of - he went through the same thing when David Tepper bought the Carolina Panthers. But for the respected figure, it's about being thorough and implementing the process effectively via Ben Standig of The Athletic.

"There will be a discussion about what happened over the last three years. I’ll be honest. I’ll be upfront. … The owner has got to be able to believe in what I’m talking about. Hopefully, I can do that. We had a plan coming out of the season. We mapped it out with the previous ownership — the current ownership. We had gone through, discussed it, and this was where we were. Again, we try to (ensure) we’re being very, very thorough as we go through that process. That’s probably the biggest thing. We want to be very deliberate in everything we’re doing."

Everything comes down to what Harris and his group believe is the best route forward. There is a lot of hard work ahead given the mess Dan Snyder is leaving behind, but whether they believe Rivera is the right man to lead this team long-term remains to be seen.
