Commanders safety ranked among NFL peers

One of the brightest success stories throughout Ron Rivera's stint as head coach is the impact Kamren Curl's made since joining the Washington Commanders as a seventh-round pick. The hard-hitting safety earned starting reps right out of the gate and continues to develop into a highly productive performer capable of great things moving forward.

Curl is heading into a contract year and with the price only going up, Washington would be wise to get something done as a matter of urgency once Josh Harris' ownership group formally takes charge. Especially considering the upcoming dilemma the team faces with star defensive end duo Chase Young and Montez Sweat.

Arif Hasan from Pro Football Network recently placed Curl at No. 24 in his preseason NFL safety rankings. His partner in crime Darrick Forrest didn't make the top-32.

"Still a somewhat inconsistent player in coverage, Kamren Curl has demonstrated he can still be a big asset in the passing game, with his ability to deter coverage with excellent instincts and knowledge of opposing offenses. He still excels closer to the action as a run defender or man coverage defender, where Washington used him a bit more often, but he has a lot more versatility than people were expecting."

One could make a strong case for this being on the low side considering Curl's supreme consistency over the last two seasons. But if the former Arkansas star takes another leap forward in 2023, he'll be in the upper echelons of similar rankings this time next year.
