A lot of people think they can do a better job of running their favorite club than the acting regime. However, the intricacies of building and maintaining an NFL roster get overlooked, as one Washington Commanders fan proved when calling into The Kevin Sheehan Show.
The Commanders supporter, Ian, was quite fed up with how general manager Adam Peters has approached this offseason. More specifically, the frustration centered around the team’s efforts to address their well-chronicled wide receiver woes — or lack thereof.
Ian had a few choice words for Peters, highlighting that Washington hasn’t made any meaningful wideout additions beyond another Day 2 rookie in Antonio Williams.Â
"I look at [the Commanders], and I wish there was an adult in charge that would say, 'We have a Super Bowl-caliber quarterback potentially; let's structure this,' Ian stated. But instead, we have an offseason where we went through the free agency and the draft, and we drafted a slot receiver for the third year in a row in the third round ... ."
Frankly, the frustration is fair, though it’s also misguided, which Kevin Sheehan of The Team 980 was quick to point out.
Commanders fan takes aim at Adam Peters with misguided complaint
It's not like Peters hasn't attempted to bring in reinforcements. He's taken swings and just struck out. Sheehan knows Washington would love to have an exciting complement to No. 1 target Terry McLaurin, though that’s easier said than done.Â
While missing on players isn't much better than not trying to acquire them, the discrepancy is certainly worth emphasizing. Peters hasn't been sitting on his hands, expecting things to change, despite what Ian’s comments might suggest. Sheehan noted that the Commanders pursued some of the top guys on the open market, namely Romeo Doubs and Alec Pierce, albeit to no avail.
Moreover, Washington has been heavily linked to several veteran pass-catchers who are either unsigned or cut/trade candidates. Deebo Samuel, who spent 2025 with the squad, Maryland native Stefon Diggs and the San Francisco 49ers’ Brandon Aiyuk have been discussed ad nauseam. Why Peters hasn’t pulled the trigger on any of them varies by the individual, but when there's smoke, there's fire, as the saying goes.
Not to mention, Ian's assessment may be a bit overzealous. The Commanders do, in fact, have a rising young star at football’s most important position in Jayden Daniels. Yet, Peters and Co. are ostensibly working to set the 2024 No. 2 overall pick up to succeed for the long haul, not only in 2026.
