Brandon Aiyuk is not doing himself any favors right now. He's become a running joke across the media and fan bases around the league, which was only heightened this week by a warrant for his arrest on a speeding misdemeanor and his subsequent reaction on social media.
Whether that changes the Washington Commanders' stance around potentially acquiring the wide receiver at some stage is debatable. But one team analyst has now worked out what the biggest red flag with Aiyuk might actually be.
And it has nothing to do with the knee complication that caused him to miss the entire 2025 campaign.
Commanders analyst believes poor judgment is Brandon Aiyuk's biggest red flag
Kevin Sheehan of The Team 980 believes the knee might not be a problem if the Commanders eventually give the green light to this move when his saga with the San Francisco 49ers finally concludes. The pundit is much more concerned about his poor judgment, which has come across several times since his dispute with his current employers began.
"It's becoming more clear to me that the biggest issue with [Brandon] Aiyuk, and I don't know anything about his physical health. I'm assuming that if they ever signed him, he's physically fit, and that the knee recovered perfectly, and he's ready to go physically. But the thing that just constantly comes up is this guy has terrible judgment. Limited, clearly."
It's a fair point. Whether Aiyuk is getting bad advice or he just can't help himself is debatable. But there are some decisions he'll probably look back on in later life with a sense of regret.
Aiyuk could have kept quiet about the arrest warrant. He chose to fan the flames instead.
He could have pursued a release with the Niners amicably. Aiyuk made things more difficult than they needed to be, though the club is not without blame either.
It speaks to a lack of maturity. Questions about his character have constantly come up. Fortunately for the Commanders, nobody will know about that more than quarterback Jayden Daniels and general manager Adam Peters.
Daniels has a brother-like bond with Aiyuk. Peters was part of the front office in San Francisco when they took him in the first round. A lot has changed since then, but Washington's front-office leader praised him as a person during his media availability at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine.
Bad press is not what Aiyuk needs right now. He's staying silent on football matters, which is the right call. But until the Niners relinquish their stance or Peters changes his mind about a potential trade, everyone is in limbo.
And if he does end up in Washington, these poor decisions will have to stop.
Otherwise, Aiyuk isn't going to last long.
