Brandon Aiyuk seems to think he is joining the Washington Commanders when he is eventually released by the San Francisco 49ers. The wide receiver is on the left squad list and has not applied for reinstatement, which makes his claims nothing short of delusional until proven otherwise.
Replying to a text for an article by Matt Barrows and Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic, Aiyuk commended general manager Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn for their roster construction this offseason. The wideout also believes that he is the missing piece of their puzzle.
“AP and DQ (Dan Quinn) quietly put together a SQAUD! I’m the final piece that will swing all the odds in our favor (trophy emoji) #GOCOMMANDERS #RAISEHAIL.”

Brandon Aiyuk has conviction about eventual switch to the Commanders
Aiyuk lost touch with reality a while ago. The receiver seems to have made every poor choice imaginable, no matter how much the Niners are to blame. The Commanders were reportedly intrigued by the possibility of landing him earlier this offseason, though Peters was not going to make a trade. The Arizona State product is convinced that's still the case, but there is simply no guarantee on anything right now.
It's become a weird infatuation with Washington.
The connection is obvious, with Peters, quarterback Jayden Daniels, and Wes Welker having previously worked with the player. He's reportedly bought a $10 million property in Loudoun County, Virginia, just 24.5 kilometers from Washington's practice facility in Ashburn. Seems like a lot of effort for nothing, but his actions on social media have completely changed the dynamic.
Aiyuk took shots at everyone, even Daniels. That was enough to turn off those supporting a potential switch to Washington, though some still remain. Couple this with the injury issues and other erratic behavior, and it's not hard to see why Peters may decide against it when he gets the chance.
The Commanders would benefit greatly from the Aiyuk who earned second-team All-Pro honors in 2023. Unfortunately, that was a long time ago, and things are very different now.
Peters will no doubt be asked about Aiyuk during his media availability this week, but he won't say anything. He knows better, and the fans are already being flamed by the player without much substance. Niners general manager John Lynch wished him well, but he is no longer part of San Francisco's plans.
Who knows if he'll be part of Washington's.
The chances remain unlikely, especially if there is legitimate beef with Daniels. But Aiyuk might also know something we don't.
Time will tell, I guess...
