5 supreme standouts from Commanders 2026 training camp Day 7

It seems like a long time since the Washington Commanders were on the field for Day 7 of training camp, and the sixth session with fans or the media in attendance. But it was only 24 hours ago.

A lot has happened since then.

The Commanders finally pulled the trigger on signing wide receiver Stefon Diggs to a one-year deal that could be worth up to $12 million. This was a major statement of intent, and considering how much the offense has been humming over recent practices, his long-awaited arrival has the scope to make the unit even better.

Diggs will make his eagerly anticipated first appearance at practice when the Commanders get back to it on Friday. The stakes have been raised, and some are starting to rise in the training camp pressure cooker.

With this in mind, here are five standout performers from Washington's seventh training camp practice before the 2026 season.

Brandon Coleman, OL

There is a genuine competition for the starting left guard job this summer. Chris Paul is looking to cement his role after an impressive campaign in 2025. But make no mistake; Brandon Coleman is pushing him every step of the way.

According to reports, Coleman looks good. He has more strength now that he is fully healthy. He is becoming more technically sound, and working alongside Laremy Tunsil when he gets the chance isn't a bad thing to have as a support system.

Coleman has a shot. And if he continues to build confidence, he might just get the nod over Paul when push comes to shove.

Colson Yankoff, TE

It seems like there isn't a practice that comes without a standout catch from tight end Colson Yankoff. The 2024 undrafted free agent out of UCLA continues to stand out, and it seems as if his roster spot is safe if he can shine during Washington's preseason games.

Yankoff might be behind some in the tight end room right now, but with John Bates currently sidelined, he is getting the chance to impress. The third-year pro is taking advantage, and considering how frequently David Blough plans to utilize the position within his new scheme, there could be more opportunities in the regular season.

At the very least, Yankoff is a decent special-teams asset. But he may become much more if the same trend continues.

Odafe Oweh, OLB

While it was the offense that got the upper hand on the second day of pads, Odafe Oweh continues to catch the eye. Washington's big-money signing certainly looks the part, with his explosiveness off the snap and bend around the edge causing endless problems for the offensive line.

Oweh has everything one looks for in a productive pass-rusher, and he wants to become an elite three-down force. The Commanders placed a big bet on the Penn State product achieving this objective, and the impression made throughout the summer suggests he is more than capable of taking on extra responsibilities.

There is a long way to go. But it's so far, so good for Oweh.

Luke McCaffrey, WR

The second straight day wide receiver Luke McCaffrey has made the list, and based on the observations from those in attendance on Day 7 of training camp, it's richly deserved.

Things are starting to click for McCaffrey. The game is slowing down, and he looks much more comfortable as a route runner. Gaining trust is crucial, but he's showing real growth at the perfect time.

Obviously, the addition of Stefon Diggs completely changes the receiver dynamic. It'll be interesting to see where McCaffrey fits into the equation now, but he's got a lively chance of gaining more targets if he continues to excel.

Marcus Mariota, QB

All the hype has centered on Jayden Daniels, and rightfully so. He's healthy and ready to remind the world why he was considered a borderline elite quarterback during his rookie year. But after an up-and-down start to training camp, this was reportedly Marcus Mariota's best day by a considerable margin.

Based on observations, Mariota was impressive. The accuracy took a step forward, and the timing was right where it needed to be. In an ideal world, the veteran backup won't see the field much, but he's keeping himself sharp in case his number is called.

Daniels is the guy. But the Commanders are fortunate to have a very capable understudy in Mariota.
