Redskins vs. Bills preview: Storylines, how to watch, and more
By Ian Cummings
The Redskins face off against the Buffalo Bills today, in what will be a very intriguing spectacle, if nothing else.
The Washington Redskins won’t be viewed as legitimate contenders to knock off the Buffalo Bills today. They’ll play the 5-2 Bills on their own turf, whilst bringing with them a measly record of 1-7 over the first eight games of the season. A win might not be in the cards today, but the outcome of the game itself might not even be the biggest storyline.
Rather, the biggest storyline of today’s Redskins contest must be the impending first start of rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins, who will be taking the job as the starting signal caller with the team’s previous starter, Case Keenum, still nursing a head injury.
In spot duty so far this season, Haskins has thrown for 12 completions on 22 attempts, amassed 140 yards, no touchdowns, and four interceptions. Haskins’ spot duty came in two games against the Giants and Vikings respectively.
The rookie’s early returns have made some wary of Haskins’ developmental curve, but Haskins hasn’t been able to find a groove. In both games, the first-year player was thrust into open action with little to no preparation with the first-team. In today’s game, he’ll have had several days to prepare as the starter.
That said, this game won’t be any easier for Haskins than his previous two contests were. The Bills are the No. 3 defense in the nation in total yardage, behind the Patriots and 49ers, and while they haven’t generated turnovers at as high a clip as New England and San Francisco, they’ll provide a tough test for Haskins and the Redskins offense.
You’ll want to watch Haskins’ first start, and you can do so by tuning in to NBC Sports Mid-Atlantic to watch live, if you live in the local D.C. area. If not, you can still view the game by using an online live streaming option, such as NFL Game Pass or FuboTV. Also be sure to check out our extensive bank of pregame content, organized below!
