Washington Redskins: Predicting the 53-man roster after preseason Week 1
The Washington Redskins continue to shape the roster for 2018 and the process has taken a different turn in recent days.
The Redskins will close training camp in Richmond on Tuesday and return to Redskins Park for the remainder of the preseason. The first preseason game is in the books and the second stringers and draft choices looked superb against the New England Patriots. Third stringers and players on the roster bubble could not hold a comfortable lead, but some players did stand out and had a solid first game.
With all of that in mind, and taking the latest injury news under advisement, this will be my second and final attempt at a roster prediction for this preseason. The first roster prediction came in mid-June and this latest prognostication will certainly look different.
These roster predictions are not the only ones we have produced. Check out Jacob Camenker’s pre-training camp prediction. His next roster forecast could look different as well, but the projections we make prior to training camp always look different once we have seen players in preseason games and account for various injuries.
The regular season is still four weeks away and we won’t know who is on the final 53-man roster until September. Here is what I wrote back in June for the first prediction.
"It is never too early to speculate about the final numbers. There could be surprising additions. There could be surprising cuts. Another free agent or two could be added to the roster. A trade could happen. In other words, the roster is far from being set in stone. Let’s see who might be there on opening day."
Here is the prediction.

This list is obviously different than what was posted in June, but that is not surprising. After the early summer prediction, we held a podcast and the Riggo’s Rag crew discussed what I had posted.
So much has changed since then. The injury to Derrius Guice. The status of Josh Holsey. The injury to Stacy McGee. The struggles of Kevin Hogan. The fierce determination of Maurice Harris. The injury to Robert Davis. The mid-summer addition of Adonis Alexander. It will not be surprising to see more changes coming in the next few weeks and we’ll be here to cover it all for you.
