Redskins Injury Report: Rob Kelley doubtful, Trent Williams questionable for Sunday vs. 49ers
Heading into Week 6 of the NFL season, the Washington Redskins are dealing with a handful of injuries. They have a couple ruled out, and a couple are doubtful as they get ready to face the 49ers.
Week 6 is going to be important for the Washington Redskins for a number of reasons. Currently, they sit at 2-2, behind the 5-1 Eagles in the NFC East race and still in good position to fight for a Wild Card spot. They need a win to stay in the hunt and to stay above .500. Beyond that, they are facing the return of former offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan who will be looking to lead his young 49ers squad to victory.
Because of this, the Redskins are going to need as many of their players to be healthy and ready to play as possible. Right now, they are facing the possibility of playing without a few key players, per their weekly injury report.
Coming into the week, it was known that Josh Norman and Ty Nsekhe would be out. Norman had suffered a rib fracture and lung damage against the Chiefs in Week 4. Right now, he is week-to-week, but he was expected to miss the next three games with the malady. Meanwhile, reserve tackle Nsekhe tore a core muscle a couple of weeks ago and he was supposed to miss 3-6 weeks. Now is at the early point for his return, so it was expected that he wouldn’t be back yet.

However, there are a few other key injuries the Redskins are dealing with. Two come on the offensive side and one on the defensive side. Rob Kelley and Deshazor Everett are doubtful while left tackle Trent Williams is questionable for the contest. The Redskins are going to have to have a successful gameplan with a couple starters set to be out.
Kelley is not a surprising name on this list. He injured his ankle against the Chiefs after returning from a rib injury that kept him out of half of Week 2 and all of Week 3. It was confirmed early in the week that he was a long shot to play, and that rang true.

In his stead, Samaje Perine will likely start as the lead back, but Jay Gruden should not be afraid to mix in plenty of Chris Thompson and Mack Brown to take some pressure off the rookie. In particular, Brown should be given a chance against a weak run defense to see what he could accomplish in a bigger role.
Elsewhere, Everett is set to miss the game which will hurt the Redskins depth. Everett was a strong run stopper this year, but had some issues in coverage. Montae Nicholson will start in his place next to D.J. Swearinger. Stefan McClure will be the only backup at the position unless the Redskins were to bring up Fish Smithson from the practice squad. It seems more likely that cornerback Kendall Fuller will be the emergency safety for the team.
Finally, the biggest key here is the injury to Williams. The starting left tackle is among the best in the league, and the Redskins cannot afford to be without him. With Nsekhe out, T.J. Clemmings is the top backup option and he is not ready for that role yet, and may never be. Right now, it’s seeming likely that Williams will be on the field, as Jay Gruden expressed confidence in him during his press conference about the injuries. Hopefully, Gruden’s optimism has truth behind it and Williams will be ready come Sunday.
