The vibes around the Washington Commanders are positive right now. Everyone has turned the page on a disastrous 2025 campaign, eager to regain their place among the playoff challengers. But that doesn't mean the pressure is off.

General manager Adam Peters has done his part, revamping the roster with the promise of more arrivals to come. Now, it's down to head coach Dan Quinn and his staff to mold this group into a cohesive, competitive unit.

And according to one NFL analyst, his job may depend on it.

NFL analyst raises the stakes for Commanders head coach Dan Quinn next season

Moe Moton of The Bleacher Report placed Quinn on his list of head coaches who are entering a make-or-break season in 2026. He rated the heat at 7/10 right now, but if David Blough cannot help Jayden Daniels grow, and the defensive additions don't bring improvements, the analyst wouldn't be surprised to see the Commanders bring an end to his tenure.

"As a defensive-minded head coach, [Dan] Quinn needs a better showing from a revamped unit, even though he doesn't call plays. Washington signed Tim Settle, Odafe Oweh, K'Lavon Chaisson, Leo Chenal and Nick Cross to bolster a unit that allowed the most yards and ranked 27th in scoring last season.

"Quinn's choice of an offensive coordinator is directly linked to [Jayden] Daniels' development. If the third-year signal-caller continues to regress after winning 2024 Rookie of the Year, the Commanders may dump Quinn and the entire coaching staff to find a new vision for their franchise player."

This isn't Quinn's first rodeo. He's been around the block more than once, and he's been fired as a head coach before. He'll know what will probably happen if the tide isn't turned, but the respected leader has gone out of his comfort zone this offseason in pursuit of progress.

Joe Whitt Jr. and Kliff Kingsbury, two prominent Quinn allies, are out. The Commanders are moving forward with Daronte Jones and Blough, two up-and-coming coaches with no NFL coordinator experience. It's a drastic measure, but sitting on his hands and hoping things worked themselves out was not an option.

If it doesn't work out, at least Quinn can say he tried something new. But if it has the desired effect, the Commanders will once again be a surprise that some teams won't see coming next season.

That's for the future. For now, Commanders fans are hoping last season's collapse is nothing more than a blip on the road to prosperity. Because if that scenario doesn't come to fruition, Quinn may be the one to pay the price.

High stakes, indeed.
