Stefon Diggs once again put out the feelers about joining the Washington Commanders. Just how much interest there is on Adam Peters' side isn't known, but one has to think a move would have been made by now if the general manager were keen.
Diggs is hopeful. He is working through some things right now, but things should become clearer soon after the NFL confirmed it will take no action regarding his successfully concluded legal issues.
The Commanders are reportedly looking for another productive veteran wide receiver. However, there is just no telling how those in power feel about a homecoming for the Maryland product.
One team pundit believes there is a reason why Peters has not pulled the trigger on Diggs as yet. And the take may have some merit.
Commanders may be put off by Stefon Diggs' projected role in Washington
Kevin Sheehan of 106.7 The Fan thought the fact that Diggs' potential role in Washington would be off-putting from the Commanders' standpoint. While the move has merit, he wouldn't be the top guy. In fact, the analyst thought he could even be No. 3 in the passing-game pecking order behind Terry McLaurin and tight end Chig Okonkwo.

Considering the problems Diggs has caused when he is not the focal point or when targets are not plentiful, that might be enough to give Peters pause. That is why a conversation with the player would be preferable if there is an interest.
Seeing what he wants and if he would be willing to accept a complementary role in David Blough's system is the first part. The Commanders have enough salary-cap space to make the money work, but they can ill afford someone like Diggs being a distraction with so much at stake next season.
If Diggs is on point and firmly focused on football, it's hard to envisage him being anything but helpful. He went over 1,000 receiving yards last season, helping quarterback Drake Maye flourish as the New England Patriots reached the Super Bowl. The wideout can be an asset, but this is all about risk versus reward.
The Commanders may have their sights set on Brandon Aiyuk. He has a prior connection to Jayden Daniels, but he's also being questioned for his off-field conduct and has missed a lot of football. There is also comfort in the young options available, who could thrive under Blough's concepts, which are expected to be much more player-friendly.
Diggs has been a top dog for much of his career. He's now on the tail-end, so the Commanders would need to know he is willing to accept a changed reality before taking the plunge.
It's that simple, really.
