Going into his rookie year, Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels has received plenty of hype. At the same time, we've got to remember that he's still a rookie, and this team is far from a complete product.

Still, it's going to be fun to watch the Heisman winner and no. 2 overall pick develop. By the looks of it, in his first NFL start, Daniels is off and running in that aspect -- quite literally.

Toward the end of the third quarter in his rookie debut against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Daniels completed a pass to running back Brian Robinson who then took it all the way down and dove for the end zone. Originally called a score on the broadcast, Robinson had come up just short.

But, on the very next play, Daniels was able to cross the goal line on his first-ever regular season touchdown.

By that point in the game, Daniels had rushed for 72 yards on 11 carries and was the team's leading rusher. He would go on to check off the 75-yard mark on our bold predictions launched pre-game, too.

The Commanders may have been losing, at the time, but there was still plenty of reason to celebrate Daniels' touchdown run. The future looks bright with Daniels under center; not just bright, but exciting. Daniels looked electric carrying the ball Sunday afternoon.

Jayden Daniels could break another former Washington quarterback's rookie rushing record in 2024

If Daniels continues at this pace, using his legs to make plays game-in and game-out, he will most certainly be in the conversation to break an NFL record held by a former Washington quarterback.

Back in 2012, Robert Griffin III broke the league record for rushing yards by a rookie quarterback when he tallied 815 yards on the ground that year. The record still stands to this day, so Daniels wouldn't just be making franchise history, but re-writing the league history books if he continues at this pace.

It is just a one-game sample size, but Daniels looks like a whole lot of fun, to say the least. He looks the part, which is more than no. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams could say after his own rookie debut. The two of them will be often-compared not just this year but for years to come, and in Week 1, Daniels put on much more of a show.

Sure, Williams and the Bears got the win. But, Bears fans expected as much. Washington fans, on the other hand, know this is a rebuild and that it's going to take time.

That time is best spent by enjoying the process, as we shall continue to do here watching Daniels ball out.
