The Washington Commanders made it official on Monday, hiring former San Francisco 49ers general manager Adam Peters to be their new GM.

As the team kicks off this new era, they now turn their attention to finding a head coach.

After the head coach gets resolved, one of the biggest priorities will be finding a long-term solution at quarterback. Does Sam Howell actually have a chance? Will it be a veteran? How about taking a rookie like Caleb Williams or Drake Maye at no. 2 in the 2024 NFL Draft?

Whatever direction they decide to go, Peters definitely has some veterans he could bring in as a backup. These are a few quarterbacks Peters is connected to, that will be options for the Commanders.

1. Nick Mullens

First up is former Southern Miss standout Nick Mullens, who was picked up by the 49ers back in 2018 after going undraftd. Mullens spent his first three NFL seasons with San Francisco, back when Peters was Vice President of Player Personnel.

Recently, Mullens is coming off a season which he wound up starting a few games for the Minnesota Vikings. Minnesota had themselves a real quarterback crisis after Kirk Cousins went down, and three other quarterbacks saw some action after the injury, including Mullens.

In five games (three starts) with the Vikings in 2023, Mullens threw for 1,306 yards, seven touchdowns and eight interceptions. He did complete over 67 percent of his passes and proved that, like another great Southern Miss quarterback from a couple of decades ago, he can really sling it.
