Magic Johnson's immediate Commanders objective

It's been astonishing to see the turnaround across the Washington Commanders since their $6.05 billion sale to Josh Harris' ownership group became official. The dark cloud has lifted and been replaced by renewed hope for the future - something that will take time but can hopefully propel the franchise to better fortunes on and off the field.

Even though others invested more, Magic Johnson's role is a pivotal one. The figurehead represents the inspirational sporting icon and successful business mogul with the Midas touch, which is something the likes of Harris and Mitchell Rales will rely upon heavily throughout their ambitious project.

When outlining his immediate objectives with the Commanders, Johnson stated via Sports Illustrated that the goal is to allow Ron Rivera and others in positions of power to focus on football matters and not much else. This might seem like the minimum requirement, but it wasn't a luxury afforded to them under the absent previous owner devoid of any remorse or accountability whatsoever.

"We want to take all the headaches away from the players and coaches. We want them to concentrate on being great football players and winning games and just coaching games. We want to make it easy for them. And that's what we're going to do."

Johnson will also have an important role to play within the community in pursuit of getting the fans back onside. Judging by the incredible surge in attendance over the opening few days of training camp, this should be a pretty straightforward exercise.
