Commanders S Kamren Curl's focus

Now that Josh Harris' ownership group has finally taken over the Washington Commanders, it should provide a little extra freedom to make football moves that could help in the short and long term. Among the biggest priorities before the campaign - at least from the outside looking in - is sorting out a long-term extension with Kamren Curl.

There's no doubt whatsoever Curl has outplayed his seventh-round rookie contract. He's risen from the proverbial wilderness to become an integral part of the Commanders' defense under Jack Del Rio, with his partnership on the backend alongside Darrick Forrest among the league's best young tandems.

When discussing the contract matter recently, Curl stated via USA Today Sports that his primary focus remains on football and preparing for the upcoming campaign. He also spoke about the renewed energy across the fanbase that isn't going unnoticed from a player standpoint.

"I am where my feet are; you know what I’m saying? So when I’m playing football, that’s what I’m focused on. It’s our fourth year in the system, so everybody feels more comfortable in the system knowing what our job is, knowing every role everybody has. It feels good, you know, you can feel the excitement, you know what I’m saying? Everybody coming out to practice, all this stuff on social media, like you feel the excitement. I’m focused on football. I’m here damn near 12 hours a day, so that’s what I’m focused on. Honestly, I don’t have time to think of nothing else."

This is the right attitude for Curl to have. He pays people to handle the business side of things and if the Commanders had any sense, they would avoid any unnecessary distractions and get this extension done before Week 1 against the Arizona Cardinals rolls around.
