Commanders HC Ron Rivera's motivation

It's not just the Washington Commanders fans that have been reinvigorated by the team's sale to Josh Harris' ownership group. Head coach Ron Rivera seems like a man reborn during his three media pressers following the transaction's official confirmation.

While there is added pressure on Rivera to get the Commanders trending in the right direction with new ownership watching, he seems highly motivated. Discussions have gone well with Harris initially, but the former linebacker knows there is a lot to prove now he can finally focus on football once again based on his comments via Sports Illustrated.

"I've got a lot to prove. I really do think we've put ourselves in a really good position. I think we're a good young football team with some key veterans in key positions and now is the opportunity to go. And yeah I do feel that I do want to prove some stuff. We've been too close. For everything that we've done and for what we've had and how we've competed we've been too close the last couple of years. We get into a really good run, it's time now to sustain it and just (prove) that these are the guys, these are the coaches, (and) that I'm the right guy to help this organization to continue to go forward."

The pieces are in place to make strides. It won't be easy looking at the schedule and some Commanders' position groups could hold them back, but this newfound momentum might be enough to spark a sleeping giant into life at long last.

Rivera just looks like a man with far less weight on his shoulders right now. Long may it continue.
