Adam Peters on Commanders QB choice

With Caleb Williams seemingly a lock to become the Chicago Bears' pick at No. 1 overall, the 2024 NFL Draft starts with the Washington Commanders at No. 2. Adam Peters has a franchise-altering choice on his hands - one that could speed up his rebuild or leave the general manager playing catch up.

The Commanders have turned over every stone and gone through comprehensive assessments. It's a painstaking process, but one that needs to be done thoroughly to ensure Peters has all the information needed to make the correct call.

Peters honed in on the leadership aspect as a big deciding factor during his pre-draft media availability. He's also fully aware of how big a responsibility this is so early into his time with the team.

"People can lead in different ways. The way you lead is…being yourself and leading in your own way. That's by doing things the right way, coming in early, staying late, challenging your teammates, but in the right way because you've earned their trust.

"There is a lot of pressure. It's a great responsibility, and we take this very seriously. That's why we've been working tirelessly on this and turning over every stone. We want to do this not just for this organization, but for this region, this fan base and for the men, the coaching staff and the players on the field."

Fans can have a sense of confidence that they have the right people making football decisions. Peters is a supremely gifted talent evaluator and is widely respected around the league. There's a reason why the Commanders honed in on him immediately during their hiring process, so there needs to be a level of trust attached.

Whichever way the Commanders go, everyone must get behind the selection. Otherwise, it's not hard to see what unnecessary complications could emerge.
