Adam Peters plans for Commanders QB spot

One of the more pressing priorities for new Washington Commanders general manager Adam Peters centers on the quarterback position. Sam Howell is the only signal-caller under contract in 2024. Although there were plenty of mitigating factors behind his regression over the second half of 2023, the performances overall weren't good enough to get a clear run at the top job with a new regime coming into the fold.

Peters is one of the most respected talent evaluators around. Reinforcements are coming in some capacity. Much will also depend on how the new head coach views Howell's production once the hire is officially confirmed.

When discussing the quarterback position and what comes next, Peters stated via the team's website that evaluations will begin when the new head coach arrives. No stone will be left unturned. If those in power feel like the Commanders need more, they won't hesitate to pull the trigger.

"Quarterback, just like all the positions, we're gonna sit down and evaluate. That process will start once we hire the head coach and his staff, and we're gonna do that collaboratively with the head coach, his staff, the personnel department, R&D [research and development], analytics and come up with evaluations for all that before we move forward."

The Commanders are in a unique position at No. 2 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft and with the league's most available salary-cap space. The possibilities are endless, but Peters' desire to build through the draft indicates one of the top college gunslingers will end up being their preferred option.
