Which Washington Commanders players could produce performances that far exceed expectations during the team's upcoming training camp?

The wait is almost over.

We are now three days away from the Washington Commanders taking the field for the first practice of training camp. There is an extra sense of anticipation and spice this year, which comes after Josh Harris and his new ownership group officially took charge after the $6.05 billion purchase was confirmed.

Harris and his team plan to have boots on the ground at camp as discussions continue about the future vision with head coach Ron Rivera. This should increase urgency across the board and might even raise a performance level or two along the way.

With this in mind, here are three Commanders players that could surprise at training camp in 2023.

Percy Butler - Commanders S

Although the Washington Commanders have their starting safety tandem cemented, Ron Rivera hinted that there could be an increased role for Percy Butler depending on what happens at training camp. The defensive back was used sparingly last season - which wasn't unexpected for a fourth-round selection tabbed as a development project - but the former Louisiana standout is making good progress this time around and adds another dimension to Jack Del Rio's secondary options.

It's a crowded area of the field after the Commanders spent their opening two 2023 NFL Draft picks on Emmanuel Forbes and Quan Martin. It could go either way for Butler at this juncture, but his physical profile and gradual development might see him come to the fore in Ashburn.
