The Washington Commanders are asking much more of the wide receivers behind Terry McLaurin next season. General manager Adam Peters may add to the room at some stage, but there is also confidence in a couple on the fringes breaking out if everything goes well.

And one respected ESPN analyst believes Antonio Williams could be the one who benefits most from the presence of quarterback Jayden Daniels, even though pressure will be higher on him than arguably any third-round selection.

The fanfare around Williams is difficult to ignore. That brings increased expectations, but the player is confident he can meet them. And having someone like Daniels under center is only going to make things easier during his critical rookie transition.

Commanders rookie Antonio Williams should benefit from Jayden Daniels' efficiency

Mina Kimes of ESPN acknowledged that the Commanders need Williams to be impactful right out of the gate, which isn't exactly ideal. However, the analyst also highlighted Daniels' efficiency under center as a reason for optimism regarding the first-year pass-catcher.

"I think they made steps in the right direction. I do think that Antonio Williams, who they drafted in the third round, is going to need to be impactful in Year 1, in a way you wouldn't necessarily want out of a third-round receiver.

"One of the things I love about Jayden Daniels' game is the efficiency. He will get that ball out quickly. He will quickly find uncovered receivers. They can move the ball efficiently with him, and I think Williams is a really nice pairing with that skill set, which should be helpful."

Williams has an opening. Waiting until No. 71 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft probably left a sour taste in the mouth, especially given that he was projected as a first-round pick before his final college campaign at Clemson. But in Washington, he's landed in the best possible spot to make an immediate difference.

Tempering expectations would be wise initially. That might be hard as hype continues to soar, but Williams is still a Day 2 rookie looking to make his way. There will be mistakes, and it will take time, but he's got the skill set that looks tailor-made for Daniels' quick processing and even quicker distribution.

Peters won't leave anything to chance. It would be a big surprise if the Commanders didn't add another veteran wideout, with Brandon Aiyuk and Stefon Diggs being hotly rumored with moves to Washington. That's to be determined, but Williams is here right now.

Getting him up to speed quickly is imperative. If the Commanders can do that, Kimes believes Williams can force his way into an important role much sooner than expected.

And she's not alone.
