Jeremiyah Love is practically begging to get drafted by the Commanders

The Washington Commanders' chances of securing Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love at No. 7 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft are remote. Not entirely impossible, but extremely unlikely nonetheless.

But if Love had any say in the matter, he would relish the chance to link up with quarterback Jayden Daniels and form one of the most devastating backfield tandems anywhere in the league.

Love would be the dream pick for Washington; there's no getting away from that. Positional value always makes taking a running back in the top 10 risky. But with a small handful of genuine elite prospects in this class, this will probably go out of the window.

Jeremiyah Love makes his final pitch to the Commanders, but it's out of their hands

There is a growing sense among league insiders that Love's floor could be No. 4 to the Tennessee Titans. If he makes it to the New York Giants at No. 5, they are also reportedly high on the dual-threat weapon. Washington is obviously intrigued, but general manager Adam Peters would need a lot to go his way before this scenario becomes reality.

That didn't stop Love from highlighting the benefits of joining Washington. He called it a potential blessing — something he felt could help Daniels be the best version of himself along the way.

"I'd be blessed to go there... I feel like me and Jayden Daniels would be a very good duo... I would help him be a better version of himself, taking some load off of him."

If this were his final pitch, it's a good one. And if the Commanders did make him one of their own, Love would be doing cartwheels all the way to meet Roger Goodell on stage.

Unfortunately, the reality may be disappointing.

Contractually, it doesn't make much sense to take Love in the top five,m given he'd instantly become one of the league's highest-paid running backs. Then you remember he is much more than your average running back.

He's a legitimate game-changing force who can take over games. He's an offensive coordinator's dream and a defensive coordinator's nightmare. And his fierce inner will to be the very best, going about his business effectively and with real purpose, makes Love among the safest bets in this class.

Love will go high. He will probably be taken long before Washington goes on the clock. Anything else would be a bombshell at this stage, though it's also worth remembering that this is one of the most unpredictable drafts in recent memory.

Commanders fans won't stop hoping until Love is officially off the table. And if he somehow ended up in Washington, that would be just fine with him.
