The Washington Commanders could go any number of directions at No. 7 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft. Much will depend on what happens before general manager Adam Peters goes on the clock, but there should be several intriguing prospects available for the taking.

And one of the most respected insiders in the business doubled down on his earlier Commanders draft take that caused a significant stir.

ESPN insider Adam Schefter still believes the floor is No. 7 for Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love. He thought the Tennessee Titans and New York Giants were still in play, but he still thinks Washington makes a ton of sense for the dual-threat weapon.

Adam Schefter believes Commanders will win the lottery if Jeremiyah Love is available

And if the Commanders got the chance to add him to the backfield alongside quarterback Jayden Daniels, Schefter believed they should see that as a lottery win.

"It feels like the floor is No. 7 to the Washington Commanders. Everyone has been wondering all along where he goes. I do think Tennessee is in play. I think that the Giants could be in play, but I think they ultimately decide to go defense. Washington makes the most sense.

"Washington is sitting there, waiting to see if one of these other teams makes the plunge on a running back. If they don't, Washington's been looking to upgrade its backfield for quite some time. To have a player like [Jeremiyah] Love on the board potentially, at No. 7, would be a lottery win."

There is no telling for sure if Love will still be on the board. He's arguably the best overall prospect in this class. He's no lower than No. 2, but the questions center on whether the Commanders can afford the luxury of selecting a running back when there are other glaring needs that must be filled.

Schefter doesn't throw stuff out there. He's better connected than most in his profession, and it's not the first time he's tabbed the Commanders as the perfect landing spot for Love. If Peters believes it's the right thing to take this offense and Daniels forward, he won't think twice.

Love is much more than a running back. He's a game-changing force who can even line up as a wide receiver to exploit mismatches. He's a player opposing defenses have to account for on every play. Putting this sort of threat next to Daniels — one of the most dynamic signal-callers anywhere in the league — would be a nightmare for coordinators.

It's a waiting game, of course. But if Love does slip through the cracks and into Washington's lap, Schefter thought this could be a match made in heaven.

And he isn't alone.
