It won't be much longer before all the speculation around what the Washington Commanders will do at No. 7 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft comes to an end. His big event is just days away, and one prospect is gaining significant momentum at the right time.

Some experts don't believe Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love will make it to the Commanders at No. 7. There are several hurdles standing in general manager Adam Peters' path, and it'll be an anxious wait before he goes on the clock. But if he is available, the temptation could be too great.

Douglas Clawson of CBS Sports agrees, naming the Commanders as the perfect fit for Love. And he outlined one reason that has gone completely overlooked throughout the assessment phase.

Commanders could adopt the Eagles' strategy by drafting Jeremiyah Love

The analyst conceded that Love may be taken much earlier. However, he also thought the Philadelphia Eagles' success with Saquon Barkley could lead the Commanders to follow a similar path to help quarterback Jayden Daniels.

"The home run move is to draft [Jeremiyah] Love if he falls to Washington. The Titans are currently favored to select Love with the fourth pick, but the Commanders have the second-best chance of landing Love.

"Plus, think about the impact adding a superstar running back had on a division rival just two years ago. The Eagles were a good running team before they added Saquon Barkley in 2024. All he did was run for over 2,000 yards and propel them to a Super Bowl. Daniels and Love could be the new Jalen Hurts-Barkley combo."

This is a fair point. The Eagles were good before Barkley arrived. With a prolific backfield threat, they won a Super Bowl. This is something the Commanders are painfully aware of, having been tormented by the running back during the NFC Championship game.

The Commanders already have a decent offensive line, so it's feasible. Laremy Tunsil and Josh Conerly Jr. are the bookend tackles. Sam Cosmi and Chris Paul represent a solid guard tandem. If Washington can solve its center problem effectively after releasing Tyler Biadasz, it's all systems go.

Just like the Eagles when they signed Barkley, the protection is in place to justify taking Love if he's available. And if the offensive line stays clear of injury problems, they look more than capable of providing the running lanes needed for him to flourish immediately.

Projections suggest that the Tennessee Titans and New York Giants would have to pass on Love for this scenario to come to fruition. Someone could also trade up to secure his services, given that he is much more than your average running back. All Peters can do is ask for a little bit of luck, but he'll be ready to adjust accordingly if the prospect is off the board.

But if he is available, it might be a difficult proposition to turn down.
