The Washington Commanders are reportedly still looking for the right wide receiver upgrade with just a few short weeks until training camp. With speculation around the usual suspects diminishing, the rumor mill is turning its attention to other possibilities.
Kayshon Boutte is among them. And a cryptic social media post from the wideout left some speculating about whether a potential move was imminent.
People have connected their own dots around Boutte and a possible trade to the Commanders. He's looking for a new deal, and the New England Patriots have been unwilling to meet his request so far. After signing Romeo Doubs in free agency and making a bombshell trade for A.J. Brown, they might look to get something back in return.
Kayshon Boutte's cryptic social post sends Commanders' rumor mill swirling
Boutte took to Instagram with an eyeball emoji post, which is standard procedure for players who know something might be imminent before the rest of us get informed. It might be a new contract from New England, but it might be a fresh start elsewhere.

Of course, there is just no telling for sure, but if the player is being made available for trade, this could be the answer Washington is supposedly looking for.
General manager Adam Peters has avoided the temptation to make trades this offseason. The Commanders now have a full arsenal of draft picks for what is expected to be a phenomenal 2027 class. These plans could change quickly, and Boutte's potential availability warrants a discussion at the very least.
Boutte is no stranger to quarterback Jayden Daniels. The pair formed a strong bond at LSU during the 2022 season, so the chemistry is already established. Some character concerns saw the wideout fall into the sixth round, but he's emerged as a dependable playmaker over his first three seasons in the league.
Now, he wants the money in keeping with his production rather than his Day 3 status. The Patriots have been reluctant so far, and the demands might also be a stumbling block for any potential trade suitor if they are too high.
Peters always puts the business element first. He's always thinking two steps ahead with the long-term picture in mind. If he believes Boutte can help, the compensation isn't too steep, and the player's contract requirements are manageable, there are far worse avenues the Commanders could go down.
At the same time, Boutte might be too similar to what the Commanders already have.
It'll be interesting to see what the immediate future holds for Boutte. It would also be surprising if the Commanders didn't at least inquire about the cost of securing his services.
Whether it becomes anything more than that is another matter.
