The Washington Commanders have been hotly rumored all offseason to be adding to their wide receiver room at some stage, but veteran help has yet to come. Still, general manager Adam Peters has no shortage of options.
Brandon Aiyuk and Stefon Diggs both want to be in Washington. It might be a challenge landing the former, thanks to the San Francisco 49ers complicating matters, and the latter comes with some character-related red flags even after clearing his recent legal issues.
If not them, then running it back with Deebo Samuel Sr. can (and should) still be on the table. Peters could also explore the trade market. But maybe just not for the player Washington has all of a sudden been touted to be a potential fit.
ESPN insider Dan Graziano names the Commanders as a possible destination for Keon Coleman
Even with organized team activities starting this week, we're in that dead part of the offseason where most NFL-related online content is just constant projections. Records for 2026, players who could win you your fantasy league, and of course, mock trades galore.
For instance, this one from ESPN that lists landing spots for Buffalo Bills wide receiver Keon Coleman, among others. And insider Dan Graziano brings up the Commanders as a possible fit.
"The Commanders still might end up with Brandon Aiyuk once the 49ers give up and cut him, but that's taking longer than expected. They need receiver depth behind Terry McLaurin, and this is a low-cost flier on a player with good draft pedigree."
Graziano has the Commanders giving up a 2028 fifth-round pick for the struggling wideout, who was the No. 33 overall selection in the 2024 draft. He certainly has the talent to perform, but has faced questions about his attitude and work ethic. And that's precisely why Washington should stay away.
If the Commanders are going to add another wideout, it needs to be someone proven. With Aiyuk or Diggs, you could live with the gamble because they're both top-level performers when firing on all cylinders. Coleman is all potential, which makes it more likely than not that he'll never measure up.
Washington already has one wideout in Treylon Burks to fill the rehabilitation project role. The Commanders also have Luke McCaffrey, Jaylin Lane, and now third-round rookie Antonio Williams as young weapons they're . They don't need to add another mystery box in Coleman.
The Commanders still need help at wide receiver, but this isn't the one they're looking for. Let's try again next time.
