The Washington Commanders are looking for wide receiver help, according to reports. Veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs is not hiding his intrigue about a potential homecoming, but there has been no confirmed interest from the club yet.
But a concerning development elsewhere could speed up the clock.
According to Matt Foster of KSHB 41 News, Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has violated his probation after testing positive for marijuana. The gifted yet troubled pass-catcher has now been ordered to spend 30 days in jail, which means he will miss OTAs and mandatory minicamp.
Commanders are on the clock with Stefon Diggs, if they are interested
This is the latest in a series of problems with Rice. His talent is undeniable, but this could result in yet another suspension from the league. And there will come a point when he will run out of chances in Kansas City.

In truth, that may have arrived. As such, it wouldn't be a great shock to see the Chiefs identify another veteran wideout to fill the void if, or when, they remove Rice from the equation.
Looking at the options available, Diggs has better credentials than most. He may not be the prolific No. 1 receiver of years past, but he still went over 1,000 receiving yards with the New England Patriots. And now his legal issues are resolved, there should be interest.
Diggs plans to check the Commanders out, if they are willing. But if the Chiefs also came calling, getting the chance to catch passes from Patrick Mahomes might be a difficult proposition to turn down. Therefore, if Washington is interested, Peters would be wise to act soon.
They might not put in a call. Peters may be content with what he has, or he may want to wait around for Brandon Aiyuk and think that's enough. Or he may have another option in mind. There is just no telling for sure.
There is pressure on the Chiefs, too. They placed a lot of faith in Rice, and he let them down again. And after doing almost nothing to enhance their receiver room this offseason, this latest development gives them no option but to add.
That might be Diggs, or it might be someone else. But if the Commanders are keen, they cannot leave anything to chance. And looking at the way Peters has gone about his business this offseason, there should be swift action if this is a player of interest.
The sooner something gets resolved one way or another, the better. Diggs wants the Commanders to make their pitch, but he is not going to wait around forever.
And don't be surprised if the Chiefs throw their hat in the ring now.
